November/December 2014

It's the Christmas season around here! And everywhere else, I guess! This seems like the first year that Miles is really appreciating a lot of the exciting things about Christmas. It's his first real Christmas tree (the last couple years, we've had a small plastic one) and he loves it. He'll stand there and look at the ornaments for long periods, with intermittent reminders not to pull on them or throw things into the tree. We got an advent calendar full of little ornaments and he gets excited about opening another little door. Wait until he finds out about presents!

His language and cognition really seems to be taking another big leap forward as well. He's mostly speaking in full, if not perfectly grammatically correct sentences. He's starting to grapple with abstract concepts as well. When he ripped a page out of a library book, and I told him that the library would be mad at us, he informed me that, in fact, "the library not have a mouth". Good point, Miles.

We spent much of the month passing a persistent cold between the three of us. Miles stood up to it pretty well, although he would occasionally desperately yell "Wipe my nose!" at us. Also, he learned the word "boogers", and it's one of his new favorites!

It's been a good month. Here's our pictures and video!

Miles loves to stand at the Christmas tree and list which ornaments he likes.
What a helpful kid!

October/November 2014

Halloween in our neighborhood was a lot of fun again this year. Colleen made Miles a fantastic digger costume out of diaper boxes and colored duct tape. She outdoes herself every year with these costumes. Miles was really excited about it until he put it on, when he almost immediately decided he didn't want to wear it anymore. So we trick-or-treated as a guy in a flannel shirt with a hard hat. everyone thought he was Bob the Builder. The highlight of the night for me was when we got a trick-or-treater dressed as Spiderman and Miles thought for all the world that it really was Spiderman. He screamed and jumped up and down and followed this poor kid down the block saying, "Hi, Spiderman. Hi, Spiderman." It was pretty great. Miles loved the whole halloween season. He like walking around the neighborhood and looking at the pumpkins and spiderwebs people put out.

Miles has been into superheroes for a while now, but it's really kicked into high gear lately. Our pretending games have really coalesced around a team of the Hulk, Spiderman and Iron Man fighting giant robots. He also has a bunch of Batman shirts and will tell everyone that he is Batman while wearing them.

His language and development have been really great too. He recognizes emotions and will tell us when he's scared or sad. He also tells us when other people are scared or sad too. It's fun to watch that sort of thing evolve and grow in a person.

Here are pictures and video for the month!

I'm all tied up!
