Thirteen Months

Miles had his One Year Checkup yesterday.  He weighs in at just under 18 pounds, still hugging that 5th percentile curve. Our pediatrician is finally convinced that this is his growth pattern and we can space out our visits to every three months.  Miles got four vaccines and a blood draw and the total crying time was about... 10 seconds.  This kid's a champ.

Developmentally, Miles is going strong.  He dances, walks backwards, goes down steps backwards (with some direction), goes up stairs easily.  He says "mama," "daddy," and "hi."  I feel like more words are going to start spilling out any day now.  He follows directions very well: he can get a ball, balloon, socks, or toy and bring it back to you.  He sits and "reads" by himself a lot.  He can point out certain things in his books like the moon, cats, dogs, bears and ducks.  He plays patty cake (sort of). He loves, loves, loves hiding in curtains and playing peek-a-boo.  He loves his bath, books, the park, grocery shopping and target.  He likes to be out.  Wherever out is that's where he wants to be.  He's starting to get frustrated.  If he can't do something or he can't have something you can see the frustration on his face.  He's also started to bite and hit.  We're working on nipping both of these behaviors in the bud.

We took two weeks of vacation in May and traveled to Massachusetts, Vermont and Montreal.  We visited two sets of friends with older children and it was quite impressive to see how intensive time with an older child really pushed Miles to develop.  He was more verbal, ate more, and played more around them.  At home, all of Miles' friends are younger than him and much less mobile.  He's not pushed much by them yet.  I'm excited to see them all get a little older and interact more.

miles is learning how to drink from sippy cups recently.  He already drinks from a cup with assistance but we'd like him to drink more water during the day and it's a little hard to help him drink from a cup every time.

He's still the cutest thing in the whole world.  He's friendly and sweet, he's cuddly and smart.  He's active and busy and just wonderful.  We're a very happy little family.
